Lutheran Mission Cooperation is an instrument for coordinated interaction between the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) and its northern partners. The ELCT Common Work and 20 dioceses make up the 21 units which are Tanzanian LMC members. 13 churches and mission agencies from Denmark, Finland, Germany, Norway, Sweden and the USA are the northern members.
LMC is a continuation of coordination mechanisms which have been in place since before the 1970's. In 1973 Lutheran Coordination Service (LCS) was formed by the mission agencies and churches from the north. ELCT delegates participated as observers.
1n 1998 LMC was formed as a joint instrument between ELCT and her northern partners. The constitution was in 2004 adapted to a short Memorandum of Understanding outlining the tasks of LMC.
